Maximizing Your Apartment Floor Space

Just because you have a small apartment doesn’t mean it has to be cramped and crowded. You can maximize your apartment’s floor space by arranging your furniture so it’s smart about the space it uses. Create a floor plan of your apartment by measuring the floor area and furniture and drawing it on a piece of paper. When measuring your floor space, also include the width of windows, doors, and closets. After that, measure every piece of furniture you have – your bed, desk, couch, bookshelves, etc. Then get two sheets of graphing paper and draw a bird’s eyeview of your apartment on the first one. On the second sheet, draw all your furniture from the same point of view. Cut them out and label them so they stand out against the floor plan. Finally, play around with the arrangement of furniture on the floor plan until you’re satisfied.
